Overview

Adopt-A-Mile

Litter is unattractive. It poses a threat to motorists, natural habitats, wildlife and waterways. The Adopt-a-Mile initiative, sponsored by Keep Cherokee Beautiful in partnership with Cherokee County, allows citizens to show their pride in our county and safely reduce the amount of unsightly trash along our roads. The efforts of the Adopt-a-Mile program directly benefit the community through litter prevention, greater civic involvement and area beautification.

How To Adopt-A-Mile

STEP ONE: GET ORGANIZED
Choose a coordinator for your group, choose a road to adopt, recruit volunteers, read all guidelines and watch the safety video, and schedule four cleanups per calendar year.

STEP TWO: THE “PAPER WORK”
Once you have organized, complete the agreement. Be sure to have volunteers complete a safety waiver before each cleanup. Maintain your volunteer roster and communicate with volunteers about cleanup dates.

STEP THREE: THE “DIRTY WORK”
Get to cleaning! Reach out to the Cherokee County Recycling Center to reserve your supplies before each cleanup, and return your supplies after the cleanup. The Recycling Team will collect your filled bags after you submit your cleanup report in Step Four.

STEP FOUR: REPORTING
Submit a post-cleanup report. Keep Cherokee Beautiful needs your data! We report to the national and state organizations to obtain grants to continue to provide bags, vests, and pickers, and to expand our programs.

STEP FIVE: RECOGNITION
After you complete your first two cleanups, Keep Cherokee Beautiful will mark your road with our Adopt-A-Mile signs and the name of your group!
